It has been reported that Valtteri Bottas and his team have opened talks with Alfa Romeo over a drive in 2022, should he be dropped by Mercedes.
With limited options on the grid, it makes sense that Bottas is looking into contingency plans, in case Mercedes look to replace him for the 2022, and with both Alfa Romeo drivers out of contract at the end of the season, it could be a good move to help keep the Finn in the sport.
With both Alfa Romeo seats potentially available for next season, team principal Frederic Vasseur has also got the ability to select both drivers, as the deal with Ferrari to pick one of their junior drivers is no longer in effect. So with that in mind, pairing Bottas with a young star like Sauber junior, Pourchaire or a 'seat warmer' for a single season like Giovinazzi or Albon could be an option for the Swiss team.
