Driver Ratings - San Marino Grand Prix

After 14 years away, the Emila Romagna Grand Prix was rather dull. Lewis Hamilton - 8

Luck was on his side, but putting yourself in the position to get lucky is what makes a world champion. Making his starting tyres last for so long mixed with a consistently strong pace meant he was able to take the top step of the podium yet again.

Valtteri Bottas - 7

Yet again, Bottas was unable to convert pole position into a race win. Despite racing hard, he picked up a huge chunk of Ferrari that ruined his race and any chances of taking the world championship fight beyond Turkey.

Daniel Ricciardo - 9

A lucky podium for the Aussie. He'll have to thank Verstappen retiring and Perez pitting for that though. A strong qualifying position allowed him to get the jump on Gasly at the start before holding his own in the first stint. After the safety car came in, he did what he needed to do to keep Kvyat behind for his joint best result of the season. Daniil Kvyat - 9

Kvyat could be out of the sport at the end of the season, but it looks like he's going down fighting. An amazing race from the Russian and Alpha Tauri meant they picked up the points they surely would have got before Pierre Gasly retired.

Charles Leclerc - 8

Two top five finishes in two races means he is creeping himself and Ferrari up the table. A strong start put him in the position to take even more points, but he was caught out by Kvyat at the safety car re-start, dropping him down a place.

Sergio Perez - 8

The fact is, Sergio Perez should have been on the podium. A poorly timed pit-stop from the team cost both driver and constructor a podium place and big points. Yet again, his tyre management skills are the best on the grid, and it's maddening that he's missing out on a drive next season.

Carlos Sainz - 7

I know we joke about Sainz not being on TV, but did anyone actually see Carlos before his close call with Albon? A quiet race is sometimes what you need, and a solid top ten finish is essential for his own and McLaren's championship position.

Lando Norris - 6

Not his best race by any means, but a solid one for Norris, finishing one place up on where he qualified. Like his team-mate, you may have forgotten about him over the race, but these drives will help him and the team in the championship battle.

Kimi Raikkonen - 9

Kimi is on the grid for another (and probably final) season! And boy, he shoed exactly why that was a good move by Alfa Romeo. A great first stint got him and his tyres 50 laps in, before he made the most of other's mistakes meant he could get up to P10 at the final flag. Antonio Giovinazzi - 9

While Raikkonen got all the attention, Gio put in a solid drive to finish ten places up on where he started. There are still questions around his seat for next season, but Alfa Romeo certainly think he deserves it. Nicholas Latifi - 7

Poor qualifying was followed by his best race of the season. Latifi needs to sort his one-lap pace so he can be in a better position on Sunday. I can honestly see Latifi scoring his first point ahead of Russell this season. Sebastian Vettel - 6

Again, Vettel was well away from his team-mate and was let down by his pit-crew. If his thirteen second stop didn't happen, would have put the German behind Lando Norris (who finished P8) on fresh rubber. He may have an excuse this weekend, but he needs to improve in the final races this season.

Lance Stroll - 4

His poor run of form continues. No points since Monza and 25 behind his team-mate, his confidence is at an all-time low, and this was seen with a silly mistake in his final pit stop.

Romain Grosjean - 6

We've seen a late surge from Grosjean, maybe not having the seat next season has helped him relax in the latter part of this season? I can't wait to see what's next for the Frenchman.

Alex Albon - 5

A poor start put him on the back foot straight away, and despite a decent recovery drive, a silly spin put him out of the points. Eight points he desperately needs.

Did not finish George Russell - 5

It should have been his first F1 points, but a rookie error put him in the wall while behind the safety car.

Max Verstappen - 8

Before his tyre blew, Verstappen was taking the fight to Mercedes by taking Hamilton at the start and P2 from Bottas later on. An unfair result for a great race.

Kevin Magnussen - 5

Not his day, and to be honest, I forgot he was in the race.

Esteban Ocon - 5

You could say that being forced to retire saved him from being compared to another sublime Ricciardo performance. But Renault need to sort out the car for him, reliability is not his friend this season.

Pierre Gasly - N/A

Only took seven laps for his race to end with a cruel DNF. An amazing qualifying could have put him back on the podium.
