I also missed this race, but from watching it back later I’m glad I did…
Here are the driver ratings from the Spanish Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton – 10
Dominance from start to finish. He is Lewis Hamilton and that’s exactly what he does by managing tyres and dictating the pace of the race.
Max Verstappen – 7
Another podium for the biggest threat to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. He should be especially happy to split the Mercedes and to be able to keep pace with Hamilton in the first stint.
Valtteri Bottas – 6
A super bad start for Bottas meant he had to fight with Stroll early on before he could attempt to make an impression on Max Verstappen and P2.
Lance Stroll – 8
A super weekend for Racing Point and great progression for Lance Stroll throughout 2020. The car may be a big improvement, but there’s no doubt the Canadian driver has made huge steps this season.
Sergio Perez – 7
An odd strategy call for the one-stop, but Perez managed to nurse his tyres home but a silly time-penalty cost him 4th place and 2 points.
Carlos Sainz – 8
A strong race after two awful results at Silverstone is exactly what Carlos Sainz needed. Overtakes on Sebastian Vettel and Alex Albon meant Sainz delivered some solid points for the team.
Sebastian Vettel – 8
The four-time champion had to not only manage his tyres for what felt like years, but coach his strategists on what a strategy is. He’s still one of the best on track and he proved that in Spain.
Alex Albon – 6
His lack of pace when racing Carlos Sainz was very concerning, but Red Bull’s strategists pitting him so he was released into a load of traffic was such an odd decision.
Lando Norris – 6
Norris had no way of getting past those ahead of him so should be happy with P10. Really showed his racing skill when it came to defending against Charles Leclerc.
Daniel Ricciardo – 6
No points for Renault or the Aussie after a one stop strategy didn’t work out .
Daniil Kvyat – 5
P12 to P12, Kvyat seemed to have decent pace at points but there was nothing really of note from the Russian.
Esteban Ocon – 5
Still yet to see the best from Ocon, Getting held up by the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and the Alfa Romeo of Kimi Raikkonen didn’t help his race.
Kimi Raikkonen – 7
A step in the right direction for Alfa Romeo, getting out of Q1 and beating the Haas cars and Williams is a real positive for the whole team.
Kevin Magnussen – 6
After a poor show in both Silverstone races, a one-stop strategy helped the Dane have a decent race overall.
Antonio Giovinazzi – 6
Starting last there was only so much Giovinazzi could do, beating the Williams and Romain Grosjean on an ambitious two stop strategy.
George Russell – 5
There was little to celebrate all weekend for Russell. He missed out on Q2 but managed to beat his team-mate, so that’s a win, I guess?
Nicholas Latifi – 4
Lost out on the start and finished two laps down. That is all.
Romain Grosjean – 4
His biggest highlight was when hear nearly caused a crash, this might be the final year for Grosjean.
Did not finish
Charles Leclerc – 6
It’s tough to know what could have been, but a top ten finish was certainly on the cards. More worryingly is how the FIA have not punished him or his team for driving round the track without a seatbelt on for two laps.
