Vettel to sign with Aston Martin for 2021?

Since the start of the season, there have been constant rumours about Sebastian Vettel and his future within Formula One,  but there has been an update from Bild speculating he is close to signing a deal with Racing Point, who will be racing as Aston Martin form 2021 onwards.

After being told his services were no longer needed by Ferrari, very few options have presented itself to the four time world champion, with only Haas team boss, Guenther Steiner stating he would “welcome” Vettel. A stark contrast to his former team, Red Bull, with Team Principal Christian Horner saying signing the German driver was a “definite no”.

Despite Racing Point having their current drivers, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll on long-term deals, Bild have reported that team owner Lawrence Stroll is willing to activate the exit clause in Perez’s contract. This would mean a deal would have to be agreed before the end of July so Vettel could be announced as Stroll’s team-mate for 2021 – Bild have also reported that negotiations between Perez, his lucrative sponsors and the higher-ups from Racing Point are currently taking place.

If it was reached, it could cause another shift in the driver market, as team such as the majority of teams don’t have their full driver line-ups confirmed for 2021 and beyond – could we see Sergio Perez in a Haas, Alfa Romeo, Williams or even a Red Bull? You better watch this space, because we could have another silly off-season coming…
